MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police officers gathered evidence for several hours in the grassy area along Interstate 40 near the 101 connector to Millington.

An SUV appeared to have rounded the curve too quickly and went down into the ditch.

The driver was thrown through the windshield.

The accident and another along Interstate 40 last night had people talking about safety on the road.

In that crash a car sped off the interstate somehow and wound up overturned in a marshy area on the side of the road.

Officers searched for the people inside for hours.

In both instances traffic was backed up and there’s no immediate reason why the cars left the road.

People we spoke to said it’s a reminder to slow down and pay attention.

“People text and drive, you know they’re on the phone if they’re poking or in the middle lane,” said one driver.

Texting has come up time and time again as something drivers worry about.

Candy Justice of midtown told us she almost had a head on crash twice because of texters.

“In both cases I saw them looking down and all of a sudden coming right at me and both my husband and I screamed,” said Justice.

Police refused to say if the drivers were distracted in either of these crashes.

It could have been a medical situation or someone cut them off, but none the less it’s a reminder for all of us to slow down.
