MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A new report released on Friday revealed Shelby County trash crews picked up more than 26 tons of garbage from alongside roadways in the last month.
While that may be less than the 37 tons of trash that was picked up in July, it still cost the County over $700 in landfill costs and crews more than 1058 hours.
Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell said that was still unacceptable.
“Every dollar used for litter could have been spent on other pressing citizen needs. Still, we’re committed to improve the appearance of Shelby County to retain and attract residents and businesses,” he said.
The roads with the most roadside debris were Old Millington Road and Pisgah Road, between Houston Levee and Raleigh LaGrange Road.
