DETROIT, Mich. — Authorities in Detroit are investigating after two men were gunned down last Friday. Detroit media is linking the two to Tennessee, and social media accounts say they are from the Memphis area.
The Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office said Tuesday one of the men shot is 21-year-old Ryan Nelson. He died from multiple gunshot wounds.
The second who remains in critical condition, 20-year-old Garrett Cornwell. He is a graduate of Arlington High School, according to the school.
The school issuing a statement saying, “Former teachers of Garrett Cornwell have described him as the type of student you were thrilled to have in your classroom. He was always prepared to learn and engaged in the lessons, and he always had a positive attitude. As Garrett continues to fight for his life in the hospital, the entire Arlington Community Schools family is lifting him up in our thoughts and prayers, and we hope for a quick recovery.”
According to the Detroit Free Press, a man called 911 after he heard multiple shots near the Russell Industrial Center. He rushed outside to find one man lying on the ground and called police.
Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots but no one actually saw the shooting. Right now detectives not speaking about a motive and say no one is in custody.
The Russell Industrial Center website says it’s home to the largest artist community in the Midwest, a place where sculptors and painters can show off their work.
