MEMPHIS, Tenn. — People who lived in one North Memphis apartment complex told WREG they’re constantly getting harassed by the complex’s security guards.

They said they even have a curfew for the residents’ own safety.

As far as residents claiming they’re being harassed by security guards, management said it was looking into that too.

People living in the Villages said when they tried to ask the management questions about the curfew, they were intimidated and verbally abused by security guards.

Justin Williams said he saw a security guard attack a man there Wednesday.

“Before we could see what’s going on, we’re told to ‘get the F in the house, like ya’ll ain’t grown, we run this, ya’ll can go to jail right now’,” said Williams.

The management staff said the man these people say was attacked tried to beat up a security officer during a gate check Wednesday night.

The went on to explain that the reason they have a curfew was to reduce crime in the area.

A man who didn’t want to show his face on camera said curfews weren’t meant for adults.

“We were just sitting out enjoying each other just having fun and they come through telling us curfew! Curfew for who, children? We’re not. We’re grown. We pay rent faithfully,so why can’t we enjoy ourselves in front of our porches,” he said.

The management team said the curfew was also implemented because there’s a lot of gang activity in the area.

They added, the security officer accused of being verbally abusive was given a warning.
