MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Homeowners said they’re fed up with teens from a nearby school coming into their Berclair community and using a vacant house to do drug and who knows what else.
Residents said they won’t tolerate it anymore.
People who live in the neighborhood said the vacant home is a problem house.
They said teens even threaten to kill them when they ask them to leave.
“What they’re doing is they’re skipping out of school, they’re coming down our street doing drugs. They are breaking into abandoned houses that are for rent,” said Joseph Kirkland.
Kirkland called police this week when he saw teens hanging out at the vacant home at the corner of Given Avenue and Dwyer. He said they got in through the glass door.
“I went into one the other day with a police officer and helped them secure the door, and there was blunt papers everywhere. They’re in there doing drugs,” he said.
Neighbors said teens use the home as a hideout to sell and do drugs.
They told WREG they see the students hanging out at the vacant home before and after school.
“It is a problem, but it’s not something that we can control,” said Adlin Speidel.
Neighbors said teens aren’t just targeting that home. They said teens break into several other homes in the area.
Many believe the problem stems from gangs.
Police said they were called out to a home in the 3200 block of Given Thursday.
A woman said someone broke into her house she’s about to move in and stole chairs and a food truck from the driveway.
