JACKSON, Miss. — A Jackson City Council member will introduce a resolution today to design a new Mississippi state flag without the Confederate symbol.
According to reports, Kenneth Stokes said lawmakers should just design a brand new flag instead of letting the voters decide as has been proposed.
Stokes said letting voters vote on whether they want to keep the flag or redesign it would cost the taxpayers too much money.
No dollar amount was given on how much it would cost for voters to decide on the issue.
“Remove this Confederate flag. Let’s get a new state flag and let’s move Mississippi forward,” Stokes said. “I can see the days coming where there will be boycotts in Mississippi.”
