MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman is accused of pulling a knife on several people in the Tennessee Welcome Center’s parking lot in Downtown Memphis, and the people in charge didn’t even know about it.
Victoria Taylor was trying to steal their car and money, law enforcement said, but one of the victims called police before she got away.
Police said Taylor didn’t even put down the knife when they got there.
She reportedly walked towards the officers who forced her to drop it and took her into custody.
The attack happened Tuesday around midnight.
The center, which is next to Bass Pro on Riverside Drive, closed at 11 p.m.
Travelers we spoke to said they are uneasy after learning what happened.
“I just want to hurry up and go to the restroom and leave,” said Keith Bluecloud.
What’s even more alarming, the state Office of Tourism which runs the building didn’t even know about the attack.
That’s right, WREG was the first to fill them in.
A spokeswoman said she’s trying to get more information from police.
We asked MPD if and when it notified the state, but never heard back.
The office said security is always there when the center is open, but since the attack happened after close, the guard wasn’t around.
As for Taylor, she was scheduled to be back in court Thursday on a criminal attempt aggravated robbery charge.
Her bond was set at $20,000.
One of the victims told WREG on the phone physically, everyone is okay.
