Rosa Fort HS football coach, AD get into fight in front of students

TUNICA, Miss. — The Tunica County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fight between the athletic director/assistant principal and the football coach at Rosa Fort High School.

Students say this was a long time coming, the coach and his boss were arguing constantly over the team’s performance.

It’s unclear who threw the first punch, but neither man was big enough to just walk away.

The Sheriff’s Office confirmed the incident occurred between AD Trosiki Pettis and coach Edwin Norwood and happened in front of students between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday outside the cafeteria during the lunch period.

In a video shared with WREG, you can see a law enforcement officer trying to break up the fight.

Deputies were called to the school, but Norwood had already left campus by the time they arrived, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office is looking for Norwood to question him about the incident.

“The last couple of years everyone in charge has been rogue,” said Princess Davis, a Tunica County Schools parent.

She’s referring to protests over a hired principal, and a superintendent who resigned just before the state took over the district accusing him of mismanagement.

Student Nala Crumb seemed upset by the incident.

“It’s very childish, petty, like who fights?  You’re an adult, you’re supposed to be setting an example for the children, not acting like children,” said Crumb.

No one was arrested and there are no warrants issued, according to the Sheriff’s Office. No word on whether either Norwood or Pettis was injured.
