(Memphis) Dozens of East High School students spent Thursday putting the finishing touches on a memorial recognizing a fellow student’s decision to be an organ donor.

Lexie Davis’ friends and family took part in decorating a floral portrait that will be featured on the 2013 Donate Life Rose Parade Float.

In August 2011, just weeks after turning 17, Lexie suffered a seizure, fell in her bathtub and drowned.

News Channel 3 spoke with Lexie’s mother, Yolanda Walton, who now takes comfort in knowing her daughter’s spirit lives on through the positive impact of her becoming an organ donor.

“I lost my daughter but she saved five lives, five people are alive today because of my daughter,” Walton said.

The floral portrait of Lexie Davis is one of only 72 floral portraits that will travel to Pasadena, California and appear on the Donate Life Float on January 1, 2013.
