MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Family, friends, and fans gathered Friday to say their final goodbye to the Queen of Beale Street.
The funeral for legendary singer Ruby Wilson was at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Westwood.
Hundreds of friends and family packed her memorial service.
Her manager, close friends and politicians spoke and remembered the fabulous entertainer
“Ruby was the type of person that captivated the whole room when she sung,” said long time friend Solomon McDaniel.
A 50 year career filled with music, film and performances.
Wilson had fans across the world, but her biggest supporters were right here in memphis
“Only one city, one street had a queen and that queen was Ruby Wilson,” said friend A C Wharton.
Loved ones say Wilson was a generous and kind person.
She was always smiling.
The service was full of music and played in the queen’s honor.
It helped those mourn a beautiful spirit, an iconic singer, a true memphis legend.
Wilson was just 68 years old when she died last week.
She leaves behind four children, 12 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
After the funeral, the processional headed down Beale Street and stopped at B.B. King’s where Wilson was a regular performer.
Wilson passed away after suffering from heart failure the previous weekend.
Doctors were able to restart her heart, but she never regained consciousness.
