Sammons departure from airport has city leaders reaching out to airlines

MEMPHIS Tenn — Former Airport Authority Chairman Jack Sammons has officially landed his new job as Chief Administrative Officer for Memphis.

He moves on at a time when his last project is just starting to take off.

Southwest Airlines is launching two non-stop flights to Dallas from Memphis.

“Our partnership is the reason why we’re expanding,” said Dan Landson of Southwest Airlines. “We’re operating nine new flights to love field. Memphis is the only city in that group to get two daily flights.”

Landson said Sammons and the delegation from Memphis helped the airline see the business potential here.

“The relentless pursuit will not go away, we’ll push the ball down the field and use Jack as we need to,” said Scott Brockman, Airport Director.

Brockman was also very involved in the process to lure in new airlines and  said they have key people in place to keep the conversation going.

Sources close to City Hall tell WREG, Sammons is personally reaching out to airlines reassuring them Memphis is still ready to do what it takes to get more passenger service.
