(Memphis) The Shelby County Board of Education voted to close four schools Tuesday night, after months of conducting an impact study and holding several town hall meetings.

The four schools are:

  • Coro Lake Elementary
    Norris Elementary
    Orleans Elementary
    White’s Chapel Elementary

These schools will be closed after the end of the current academic year. Students at these schools will be reassigned.

They were selected because of declining enrollment and population shifts away from those areas.

Despite the comments of several concerned parents and young students, the board still voted to close the schools. The closures will also help somewhat in filling the big budget deficit.
