(Memphis) Some Mid-South school systems are keeping a close eye on the winter weather overnight before making a decision about school on Friday.

“I think the schools may be closed, but whether they are or are not, my kids are probably going to be at home. I’m not taking any chances,” said parent Ladell Windless.

Shelby County Schools sent this link to the media Thursday about how they will decide if school will be called off Friday.

SCS says it will watch the “National Weather Bureau” and monitors will check conditions on neighborhood streets, bus routes and school property. SCS leaders will not make the decision until Friday morning.

Desoto County says it will also decide about school around 5 in the morning, but already said it’s a partial day Friday and students will be released before lunch. All Friday extra-curricular events are canceled.

“The best idea is to keep them at home, it’s Friday anyway and the end of the week,” said grandfather Larry Wells.
