SCS principal suspended after abuse allegation

MEMPHIS, Tenn. –The principal at LaRose Elementary School in Memphis has been suspended.

Robert Davis III has been suspended with pay.

The parent of an 11-year-old student at the school claimed her son was knocked out by Davis.

She did not want to be identified to protect her son’s identity, as well as her own.

She admitted her son has been in trouble before, but school leaders have never reacted this way.

“It was all from the principal. Someone he looks up to. Someone he’s supposed to respect,” she said.

She told WREG her son got slammed into a wall and lost consciousness.

She said she did not learn of the alleged incident until after school and her son was never offered medical attention.

Her son’s daycare contacted her after noticing a bump on the back of his head.

She took him to the hospital and called police.

She said her son’s friends witnessed the incident. Her son reportedly told another student to “shut up,” and he stepped out of line.

She claimed the principal reached for her son’s arm, but he pulled away. She said that is when the principal slammed him into the wall.

She said next thing her son knew, he was in the office, being told to get ready for his bus.

The Shelby County School system is reviewing the allegation. Police and DCS are also investigating.

SCS said Elaine Stewart-Price will be interim principal.

One parent outside the school said she did not believe the allegations. She said Davis is a good leader.
