SCS wants to consolidate more schools

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Shelby County Schools is once again proposing to close several schools and make adjustments to others.

The plan includes closing Charjean Elementary, Dunbar Elementary and Carnes Elementary Schools and sending those students to nearby facilities.

The consolidations would eliminate 2,500 excess seats, the district said.

In addition, officials also want to build new schools on the Alcy Elementary and Goodlett Elementary School campuses, as well as the Woodstock Middle campus.

Woodstock will also be converted into a K-12 school.
