MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Happy Carousel Day!
Each year on July 25, enthusiasts celebrate the beauty and timelessness of the carousel and reminisce on the memories they bring.
For many Memphians, those memories often revolve around the Grand Carousel, which galloped for years at the Mid-South Fairgrounds and then Libertyland.
It was 10-years-ago the magnificent horses made their last trip in Midtown.
Now, thanks to a lot of money and some “tender loving care”, the Grand Carousel will once again bring joy to children of all ages at a new home at the Children’s Museum of Memphis.
The pieces were carefully shipped to Ohio, to undergo a massive $1 million restoration.
The project is expected to be completed in 2017, but until then WREG is the only station in the Mid-South with exclusive access to the project.
