MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The weekend came to a violent end after five shootings that hurt five people and killed two others.
The Memphis Police Department rolled out yellow crime tape, cut on their flashing lights, and worked to piece together clues all over the city.
“When this happens within your neighborhood, we all should be concerned because it could have been us,” Ray Smith said.
WREG news crews were there as one of the two young men were rushed to the hospital on Sunday.
Police said the men were possibly gunned down in a drive-by at Loraine and Leonard.
Officers worked the area as two separate crime scenes.
Both of the victims were in bad shape on their way to the hospital.
“That could have been somebody’s brother, somebody’s daddy, or somebody’s son,” Smith explained.
Late Saturday night, one victim was someone’s grandfather.
Family members told WREG the man was killed by a stray bullet while taking out the garbage.
“There was a lot of gunshots and they were scared. After that, they started hearing a lot of hollering. Some lady hollering, they shot him,” Angela Weaver, who live nearby, explained.
The shooting happened at a home off of Winchester Square.
Police said another woman was hit in the crossfire but is expected to pull through.
“Lord have mercy; I don`t know what else to say,” Weaver said.
A couple of hours after the grandfather was killed, another man was pronounced dead at The A Game Bar off of Winchester.
Police said the shooting started after a parking lot argument.
A second man was also hit, but police said he survived.
The latest shooting happened on Sunday night.
Officers said a man was shot in the arm off of Villawood Drive, but no condition update was given.
“We do not have enough people that are concerned with what’s going on in the neighborhood,” Smith said.
