MPD officer injured trying to stop armed robbers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis Police Officer hit by a vehicle while trying to stop armed robbers on a crime spree is doing okay.

Police said a total of three officers were hurt while trying to catch the suspects.

WREG was told there were six armed robberies  up and down Germantown Parkway, and kept police busy all morning.

A number of the robberies happened at Circle K gas stations in the area.

Police said the officer hit by a vehicle was hurt near a Circle K gas station at North Germantown Parkway and Trinity while attempting to stop the criminals.

“Armed robberies have increased in Germantown, Collierville. It’s gone everywhere,” said James Erwin who says he’s concerned about crime.

The police chase ended a few miles away on Old Dexter Road where other officers caught the suspects.

Edward Smith woke up to the flashing lights and police in front of his home.

He just moved there from Hickory Hill to get away from crime.

“To see this chaos in front of my home when me and my wife and my children are sleep and don’t know what’s going on, it’s odd to see this,” he said.

Although neighbors said they’re thankful the situation wasn’t worse, some told WREG it’s pretty scary knowing this all started after several armed robberies.

There’s no new information about the suspects.
