Severe Thunderstorm Warning now over for Shelby County, many lose power but only some damage

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Parts of Shelby County were under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning Wednesday afternoon.

Penny-sized hail was possible, and there were risks of winds up to 60 mph. The Memphis Airport reported a 66-mph wind gust at about 2:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service advised residents of the affected area to expect damage to roofs, sidings and trees.

A tree fell on a house on Bedford Lane near the airport. Memphis Fire told WREG a family, including kids, was in the home when the tree came down, but luckily no one was injured. The tree also knocked over power lines.

Power lines are also down in the road at Walnut Grove and Cherry Lane, so avoid that area for the time being.
