MEMPHIS, Tenn.– A Memphis woman said she was a victim of sexual assault and called for change after four sexual assaults happened at a Whitehaven apartment complex in the last few months.
“He busted my car window with a crowbar, hit me in the back of the head, put me in the back of a trunk and raped me,” said the 25-year-old victim on Tuesday.
WREG has chosen not to identify the woman who shared her terrifying story and said she was attacked in her car on April 14 at the Mill Creek Apartment Complex.
She said it was early in the morning when she was taken to a nearby park and sexually assaulted.
She claimed she was able to escape her attacker by kicking him.
“Whoever did this to this other young lady over here I’m praying it’s the same person that did it to me, because he doesn’t need to be on the streets and end up killing somebody,” she said.
Unfortunately police said the complex has seen an alarming amount of sexual assaults recently.
On Sunday police said a man broke into an apartment, sexually assaulted two women and stole some of their things.
On June 18, police said a 17-year-old was sexually assaulted in her home by a stranger.
On June 21, a 26-year-old was approached in the parking lot, then forced into her home and sexually assaulted.
“There should be more done. You know they got cameras, signs saying there should be 24 hour supervision. They got all those cameras,” said the victim.
The young woman told us she is now blind in one eye and has a metal plate in her face.
She said she wanted heightened security.
“It’s innocent people getting hurt and I feel it’s not fair to me and nobody else,” she told us.
The company that managed the Mill Creek Apartments, Ledic Management Group, did not return WREG’s multiple messages but people we talked to who live in the complex said they’re joining forces to be on the lookout.
“The perpetrator is still at large and if he is anywhere on the property and he sees one too many men are around, he’s going to either flee or someone is going to spot him and there he goes,” said resident Germaine Phillips.
Memphis Police said they have increased patrols in the area.
They wouldn’t say if the four sexual assault cases are connected or if they were looking for the same suspect.
The Mill Creek Apartment complex had a gate around the property, multiple cameras at the entrance and security monitoring the entrance.
People who lived in the complex said the security leaves around 12:00 a.m. or 1 a.m.
