Shea Flinn resigns from the Memphis City Council

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Shea Flinn has resigned from his District 7 seat.

Flinn announced he would not seek reelection to the Memphis City Council in late March, but until now has remained silent on his next move.

The Greater Memphis Chamber announced on Wednesday Flinn has been hired as the Senior Vice President for the Chairman’s Circle.

” Shea has demonstrated his passion for making transformational change in Memphis and that is the core focus of our Chairman Circle,” said Phil Trenary, president and CEO of the Greater Memphis Chamber”Our team is eager to work with Shea and get him engaged with our Chairman’s Circle members.”

The Chairman’s Circle is a leadership body that works to with Memphis business leaders on a variety of issues that affect Memphis and the Mid-South.

“After serving for seven years on the City Council, I realized that even though we had done some amazing work, there was still more to do.  The Chamber is the right place for me to continue making Memphis a better place to live and work,” Flinn said in a release for from the chamber.

Flinn went on to say his decision to leave the City Council came in the fall of 2013 with the Pre-K sales tax referendum.

“The Chairman’s Circle continued to work on it and eventually found alternative resources. It made me realize they had the leadership and ability to prioritize an important initiative like this and make it happen.”
