(Shelby County, TN) Shelby County remains under a state of emergency. County crews started salting bridges and roads Saturday evening.

While the roads seemed harmless Saturday, county leaders are concerned this second icy threat hitting the Mid-South overnight could cause bigger problems.

“Please understand it isn’t over. It ain’t over. We have a real challenge facing us,” said Shelby County Director Bob Nations.

The temperatures were below freezing all day. The ice didn’t melt.

“[Friday] was a lot warmer temperatures, and this time we’ve got freezing temperatures. That’s why we are putting the brine down,” said emergency crew members.

Depending how bad the weather gets, there are eight trucks on standby to lay salt mix Sunday morning.
