MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Shelby County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested after allegedly assaulting his daughter and wife late Sunday evening, the sheriff’s office says.

According to police documents, the wife confronted Deputy Brian Person after she said he hit their daughter, causing the suspect to become “infuriated”.

When they returned home later that evening, she said Person had not calmed down and “punted’ the family pet, causing the children to become upset. The woman told all of the children to go to their room. That’s when Person allegedly began yelling at the children in their rooms.

Person then went to his room, but eventually started walking back towards the children and that’s when the wife said she intervened. She said she told him to leave the children alone, but he refused and began trying to push past her to get into the children’s bedroom.

She said she pushed back and that’s when Person struck her. He then grabbed her phone and jumped on her back, putting her in fear for her life.

Seeing what was going on one of the children called 911.

An arrest warrant was issued for Person on Monday and he was arrested on domestic assault charges Tuesday morning.

Person, who has been with the agency since 2003, is relieved of duty.
