MILLINGTON, Tenn. — The Shelby County Fire Department and Millington Fire Departments are battling a tanker fire near Memphis International Raceway in Millington.
We were told the tanker was in the area of Fite Road west of Raleigh Millington Road near Victory Lane. Shelby County authorities had the roads in the area closed off.
WREG’s Jerrita Patterson was told three people were transported to two separate hospitals after a barrel on the back of a tanker caught fire and reportedly exploded early Wednesday morning. Company employees were able to put out the fire with dry chemicals.
The victims were reportedly treated for burns, chest pains and difficulty breathing. Our crews were there as first responders transported one individual from the scene.
