MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An employee of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has been charged with domestic violence and simple assault.
Chip Washington is the Public information Officer for the Department.
He was relieved of duty Monday without pay.
According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Washington was detained by the Memphis Police Department after officers responded to a domestic violence call at the Riverset Apartments.
The victim told police her ex-boyfriend showed up at her home upset over Facebook posts showing the victim and another man.
She said Washington walked up to her car and started to tell her she was embarrassing him on social media.
That’s when he punched her in the left arm while she was sitting in the car.
The pair went inside the apartment where Washington allegedly pushed her onto the sofa and began throwing pillows at her.
They released the following information to WREG:
“It was brought to our attention earlier today that our PIO Chip Washington was involved in a disturbance to which the Memphis Police Department was called.
Mr. Washington was detained by the Memphis Police Department.”
Washington is expected to be in court on Tuesday.
