MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A shooting at Purple Haze nightclub overnight left a man critically injured, police said.

No suspect information was given by police.

Police have responded to several shootings and fights in or near Purple Haze. Recently, the club was given permission to stay open until 5 a.m.

The club released a statement saying the shooting began when a person allegedly had a grievance with someone on the street outside the club. One person left and the other entered the club.

About 45 minutes later, the first person returned, jumped patio fencing and passed a security guard to shoot the victim inside the club, the Purple Haze statement said.

“We are currently working with all local authorities to help ensure the capture of the perpetrator and our thoughts and prayers are with our patron who is currently receiving medical care for his wounds,” read the statement.
