MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police are looking for the gunmen responsible for shooting a man at a Waffle House in northeast Memphis early Friday morning.
The restaurant is located near the corner of Shelby Oaks and Sycamore View.
“It was probably about 3:30 a.m. We just woke up suddenly to about three or four gunshots,” said Ben Wulfman who is visiting Memphis. “We just ducked for cover, grabbed the dogs, hid by the bed and dialed 911, because there were gunshots immediately followed by some screams by some women.”
Authorities arrived on the scene around 4 a.m. and found a man shot in the leg. They also found a car, which smashed into a fire hydrant.
According to preliminary information, the victim left his vehicle running in the parking lot while he went inside to get an order. When he returned, a male suspect was in the car driving away.
After the car crashed into the fire hydrant, a different suspect pulled a gun and fired a shot at the victim, striking him. He was transported to the hospital for minor injuries, authorities said.
Officers also said someone ran from them as they arrived, but it’s unclear who that person was or if they’re connected to the shooting.
