Shoppers eager to check out new outlet mall

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. —  Shoppers lined up early outside some of the stores inside Tanger Outlets in Southaven to get extra discounts and check out the brand new outdoor mall.

There are some 70 stores at the outlet mall near I-55 and Church Road.

Friday, local and state leaders helped celebrate the grand opening and shoppers got to shop.

“We drive by it every day,” said Hannah Boatwright.

Boatwright, Nikki Grist and Hunter Luna all came straight from their overnight shift at Baptist Desoto Hospital to be here on the opening day.

“I didn’t come with this Jacket, I bought it. It was originally $400 and I got it for $100,” said Hunter.

They were all excited to have another place to shop and said the mall will be great for the local economy.

Mississippi Senator Roger Wicker agreed.

“Our economy has been anemic.  We are addressing the problem today in DeSoto County by adding a big injection to our economy,” said Sen. Wicker.

From the crowded parking lot it appears a lot of people are ready to spend.

There are events planned throughout the weekend at the mall, including a fireworks display Saturday night.
