(Memphis) Hours away from the biggest shopping day of the year, and at Sache Clothing Design and Salon, they are expecting a good crowd.
“Usually we do a promotion. The weather kind of dictates the destination shopping experience. Usually we do alright,” said Sache co-owner Eric Evans.
Black Friday draws crowds to stores like Macy’s, Toys R Us and Best Buy, where there is fierce competition for shoppers.
Now it’s even starting on Thanksgiving Day.
“We are not trying to ruin Thanksgiving, if you will. We won’t be open all night. We do open early and stay a little bit later,” said Evans.
Sache offers shoppers something special: t-shirts designed and printed right before their eyes.
“It’s a unique experience the fact they are printed right here in the building is something you can’t get in an experience at Target and Walmart or the larger retailer,” said Evans.
The push to patronize small business is gaining momentum.
This coming weekend will mark Small Business Saturday, a day dedicated to supporting small businesses.
American Express, which started the movement, is even offering deals to customers who patronize small companies on that day.
Hollywood Furniture in North Memphis is again taking part in the push.
For 89 years, the furniture and hardware store has seen big competition from big competitors.
They still think many people prefer relationship shopping, something small businesses can offer.
“We consider customer service a privilege and a pleasure and it is first and foremost, whatever the circumstances. I think people really still want that. They don’t think it’s out there or it’s still available and it is,” said Bart Garey of Hollywood Furniture and Hardware.
Small Business Saturday started in 2010 and it’s estimated that it has resulted in more than $5 billion in consumer spending.
