SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — Shoppers wanted more security after a night of violence in a Kroger parking lot.
Police arrested Brajun Williams after responding to a shooting in the parking lot of the Southaven Kroger at Getwell and Goodman Thursday night.
“I’ve never seen security here in the parking lot,” shopper Nicole Young said.
She wants security to be more visible after an argument between several people led to the shooting.
“They could have the security trucks patrolling throughout the day and night.” she said
One person was shot but is expected to be okay.
Southaven police charged Williams with aggravated assault after he contacted them and came in for questioning Friday morning.
It was the latest in a series of violent events at Kroger stores in our area.
Last month, a domestic situation led to a murder/suicide at the store on Shelby Drive.
“It’s sad to hear things that turn out like that, considering the situation of that incident,” shopper Linda Taylor said. “You never think about those things until it happens here, close to home.”
Kroger’s Delta Division didn’t interview with WREG Friday, but did speak with us over the phone.
Officials said they do not usually disclose all of their security measures, but they did have security on site when the shooting happened.
Still, shoppers wondered if it was enough.
“That makes me nervous,” Young said.
Many, like Taylor, also pointed out people also need to take responsibility for their own safety as well.
“We’ve got to be more aware of our surroundings, because people are changing now, and you just never know from one day to the next.”
Southaven police said they were still looking for one more person of interest in connection with Thursday night’s shooting, but they did not know yet whether that person would face charges.
