Shoppers wonder if opening of new Kroger will mean more competition

GERMANTOWN, Tenn. — Two major grocery stores are open for business, and one more is set to open soon.

Kroger’s expanded store on Farmington Road in Germantown opened Wednesday.

Shoppers said this gives them more grocery stores to choose from.

Kroger held a ribbon cutting Wednesday. It was more than the opening of a new grocery store; it is part of a new “grocery battle” in the Mid-South.

Some shoppers said the new store could mean more competition in the area.

Wednesday morning, shoppers lined up to be first inside the Kroger on Farmington Road.

Just a few weeks ago, they did the same at Sprouts Farmers Market on Poplar Avenue, and in a few weeks, they will probably do it again at a brand new Whole Foods.

Shoppers said only time will tell if they can expect to see even more competition.
