MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Another SkyCop camera was set up in Downtown Memphis Wednesday.
It is located at Riverside and Carolina, where someone in a truck shot two men Sunday evening.
Police said these kinds of cameras are always rolling. The MPD Real Time Crime Center can look live over an area at any time and replay footage to solve crimes.
WREG spoke with shoppers at a gas station at Riverside and Carolina.
“It don’t hurt. Yeah, it doesn’t hurt,” said shopper Will McDaniel.
“I don’t really know. I don’t really think you’re going to stop people from doing what they want to do, if you want to know the truth,” said shopper Georgia Duncan.
Several of these cameras recently appeared after crimes were committed.
A few weeks ago, a SkyCop camera went up outside the Riverview Kansas Community Center after a man fired a gun inside.
Last month, WREG told you how a series of thefts and other crimes led the Victorian Village neighborhood to work on fundraising for its own SkyCop cameras.
They cost between $6,000 and $8,000 each.
Wednesday, Memphis Police would not tell WREG how many SkyCop cameras there are around the city.
Police said the cameras do deter crime but did not share specific data with WREG to prove that.
Both men injured in the shooting at Riverside and Carolina are expected to recover.
