Social media buzzing over greyhound jumpers and the lady who makes them

SUNDERLAND, UK — It’s a heartwarming story from across the pond that has social media buzzing.

A woman from Seaburn, Sunderland in the United Kingdom quit her day job and now focuses all her time and energy on knitting jumpers for greyhounds.

Jan Brown, 52, said she has been knitting since a very young age, but it wasn’t until five years ago that her passion went from just a hobby to a full fledged business.

According to reports, Brown was originally only making the jumpers for her own dogs when she thought it would be a nice thing to do for those that had been abandoned as well.

Soon there was so much demand from people around the world, her husband encouraged her to quit her day job and focus solely on her knitting.

Since then she has spent over 4,000 hours making 300 jumpers.

While it does take up to 20 hours for each, Brown told the media it was all worth it.

“I can’t think of anything I would rather do than knit woolly clothing for dogs,” she told Yahoo! News.

“It’s really sweet seeing them in their festive Christmas jumpers, I think they look really sweet and it’s giving much needed help to the rescue shelters,” she added.

She also does it, she said, because it brings awareness to homeless greyhounds across the United Kingdom, and a little holiday cheer for the dogs.

“It seemed like a great way to help the animal shelters,” she said.

“There are so many dogs that won’t be re-homed this Christmas so for many of them it’s the only gift they will get.”

On her website, KnittedWithLove.co.uk, she offers the jumpers, neck wear, and other outfits for dogs.
