MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Some tenants of a Frayser apartment complex told WREG that despite complaints, they are without air conditioning during Monday’s heat advisory.
WREG visited resident Raven Davis at the Buena Vista Apartments in Frayser.
Her thermostat read 85 degrees Monday, despite the use of several fans.
Davis said her air conditioning has not worked for many weeks, even though she reported the problem to her landlord.
“People get tired of being hot. You know, my son has seizures. He can seize at any time. If we go to the emergency room, we going to be held accountable for it, not you,” Davis said, referring to her landlord.
Even though Monday was Davis’s day off work, she said her kids were at a relative’s house, because it was too hot to have them at home.
Davis said weeks of complaints finally got a maintenance person there about four days ago.
She said her air conditioning unit needs a new part, and she believes her landlord is not getting the job done.
That landlord called when WREG interviewed Davis, saying the repairman would be by early Monday afternoon.
Hours later, WREG checked with Davis.
She said her landlord told her the repairman reportedly had the wrong part.
Davis said her landlord has admitted others in the complex are without air too.
“She told me somebody come fix it, come fix it, come fix the air conditioning. But this week, she said something like that and I ain’t seem them,” said resident Robert Thomas.
WREG called that landlord and got voicemails.
Records show Buena Vista Apartments, LLC owns the complex. That company appears to be based in California.
The property has changed hands several times.
It went through foreclosure in 2010.
“I would advise my worst enemy not to even more here,” Davis said.
