MEMPHIS, Tenn. —  The roster for the upcoming elections had some voters we spoke with confused.

WREG’s Siobhan Riley spoke with several voters who said they were keeping a close eye on the elections, especially the Memphis City Court Clerk race.

One thing that concerned them: Thomas Long was listed as a candidate.

Long is the current City Court Clerk, but he has already announced he wasn’t running again.

Instead, his son is running for his seat.

Some voters we spoke with said that should be changed.

“I think the name should be corrected on the ballot,” said voter Stacy Jones. “You’re going to get misled by saying it’s Thomas Long and you’re not voting for Thomas Long, you’re voting for his son.”

At the end of the day, they just wanted to make sure the Shelby County Election Commission made it crystal clear who in fact they were voting for.

“It’s very discouraging because when I am voting I always try to see if I at least know the person that I’m voting for and I’d like to know the special qualities not of their father but of their own,” said voter Darnesha Boyd.

Still others said they didn’t care which name ended up on the ballot, it all came down to people doing their own research about the candidates.
