South Memphis shooting, barricade shuts down busy street overnight

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An overnight shooting shutdown a busy street in South Memphis overnight.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of Norris Road near Elvis Presley Boulevard and I-240.

A woman told police she was in the living room when she heard three gun shots and ran to a bedroom inside the home.

That’s when she discovered her boyfriend on the floor with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Also in the room was his roommate Derek Shaw.

Once officers arrived on the scene, they were unable to gain entry and set up a perimeter around the home.

Several minutes later, officers reported hearing some yelling and were given the command to break down the door.

Inside, Shaw refused to drop a gun in his hand and was tased.

Both individuals injured during the incident are expected to be okay.
