MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Neighbors in a southeast Memphis neighborhood are reeling after several incidents happened near the Getwell and Comanche intersection late Tuesday and early Wednesday.

Police and witness reports suggest there were two car wrecks and at least one shooting nearby.

“We heard a big crash, and it brought just about everybody on the street outside,” George Dixon, who lives nearby, said.

There was a fatal car crash around 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said the victims’ car was traveling north on Getwell when another car reportedly ran a red light and hit its passenger side.

Donna Dixon, 55, died shortly thereafter.

A pregnant passenger went to the hospital in critical condition, which has since been upgraded to stable.

Dixon’s son, who was driving the car, was not seriously hurt.

Police said two men got out of the other car and ran into the Kensington apartments nearby. The men reportedly admitted to a security guard in the complex that they were in the other car.

Police arrested one of the men for leaving the scene.

Police also arrested David Diaz, the alleged driver, on several charges including DUI and vehicular homicide.

A security guard at the Kensington apartments told WREG he heard several loud pops that he thought were firecrackers around 5 a.m.

He said police told him someone fired 16 shots.

The only shooting police told WREG about was an incident Tuesday night where someone shot a 16-year-old in an apartment complex nearby.

WREG saw evidence markers near the intersection when crews returned for a second car crash early Wednesday morning. There were three cars involved in a rear-end-collision.

People told WREG the area is no stranger too trouble. One neighbor said there is a car crash about once a week or once every other week.

The security guard at Kensington Apartments said he believes the area could use more police patrols, especially because he claims several Hispanic people have been robbed in the area lately.
