State organization recognizes 2 SCS schools with award

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Shelby County Schools has a lot to be proud of — two of its schools won a SCORE Prize, recognizing them for their high quality of academic achievement.

Delano Elementary School won for the elementary school category, while Soulsville Charter School, operated by SCS, won in the high school category.

Each school will take home $10,000 for this achievement and be highlighted by SCORE as a successful school throughout the year.

SCORE, which stands for State Collaborative on Reforming Education, gives the yearly prize to schools that are “leaders in learning in the state” based on student performance results from the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program and the Tennessee Value-Added Assessment System.

“The SCORE Prize winners and finalists demonstrate that success is possible in settings as diverse as our state — rural, urban, and suburban; large and small; magnet, charter and traditional public schools,” Jamie Woodson, the SCORE President and CEO, said in a statement. “The true winners are the students who are seeing academic success because their teachers and school leaders hold high expectations, while their parents, families and communities support them.”

The other two winners are New Vision Academy in Nashville for the middle school category and Trousdale County Schools for the district category.
