State Rep. G.A. Hardaway calls for firing of, investigation into Shelby Co. election administrator

Richard Holden

SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — State Rep. G.A. Hardaway Sr. of Memphis has called for the Shelby County election administrator, Richard Holden, to be fired and wants an investigation into his activities with the Election Commission.

Holden announced Monday he is retiring at the end of the year, but Hardaway said in a statement he “cannot let the story end there.”

Holden has previously been investigated in 2014 for election irregularities, and the Election Commission suspended him after the 2012 election, in which many voters received incorrect ballots.

Earlier this year, outgoing City Council member Wanda Halbert sued the Election Commission questioning the Memphis Court Clerk election results.

“The people of Shelby County have been subject to numerous questionable activities and problems with election after election and it’s time that someone stepped in to end these problems once and for all,” Hardaway said in a statement.
