State seizes The New Daisy Theatre without notice

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A sad sight welcomed guests to The New Daisy on Tuesday.

The Department of Revenue officially locked the doors of the theatre.

A notice was posted on the doors that stated the property had been seized by the state after the owners had failed to pay their state taxes.

According to Paul Morris of the Downtown Memphis Commission, the state showed up unannounced.

Neither the owners or the City of Memphis were notified prior, which Morris said should not have been the case.

Morris said it’s possible the state will reopen in time for the show on Wednesday, but he has not heard a confirmation of that yet.
