MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Look for a sea of pink in downtown Memphis Saturday as thousand Race for A Cure for breast cancer.
The annual Susan G. Komen 5K event is Saturday and you still have time register, make a donation or volunteer to help.
The race starts at 9 a.m. Saturday in front of The Peabody on Union and road closures downtown should begin around 4 a.m.
Race organizers, though, expect the streets to re-open fairly quickly after the race gets underway.
Runners will head north to Front Street, to Jefferson, to Riverside, up Beale, to second, South Main, back to Beale and then back to Third and Union.
The race will end at Autozone Park where the expo will be held this year. You must have a race bib to get into the expo.
This year, Baptist and Methodist will both have their mobile mammography units downtown to provide breast cancer screenings.
Organizers hope to raise well over $500,000 from the race and 75% percent of that will stay in the community to pay for things like mammograms. The rest will go toward research.
You can register right up to race day. To register online, sign up to volunteer or to get information about parking click here.
