Storm cut power for about 2,000 MLGW accounts

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — About 2,000 Memphis Light, Gas and Water accounts were without power after a severe thunderstorm rolled through Shelby County.

These outages likely affected more than 4,000 people.

At its peak, more than 2,300 accounts were in the dark, but power is coming back for many. At 5 p.m., a half hour after the severe thunderstorm warning expired, the outages were down to about 1,200 accounts.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning from about 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday for parts of Shelby County in Tennessee, DeSoto County in Mississippi and Crittenden County in Arkansas.
