MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Some stormy weather early Monday made a mess of the morning commute for some drivers.
Flash flooding was reported in several areas of the city.
At Kirby and Monmouth in East Memphis, several cars stalled in waist-high water.
MLGW crews were called in to unclog storm drains there, but for some drivers it was too late.
Their cars were dead and had to be towed away.
Douglas Edwards said his wife watched as other motorists drove through and thought she could make it, too.
“It’s likely going to be a motor where it’s got water in the intake. It won’t move, won’t crank,” said Edwards.
There was also some flash flooding in the Raleigh-Frayser area and some minor flooding along I-240.
Drivers were taking it nice and slow along the interstate, but at least one motorist lost control and ended up in a ditch.
There were no serious accidents reported during the downpour.
