MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The damage from this weekends crash was still evident.
Neighbors said they need to see some changes in order to keep everyone safe.
Christin Graves said she was worried for her young son’s safety after the most recent accident.
She said there’s a combination of problems along this road.
Street parking and speed were just two of them.
“You have to come to a complete stop or else you are going to hit a car parked on the side of the road trying to get out of somebody’s way,” she told WREG.
This weekend a woman took the curve on Island Place a little too fast and hit a parked car.
You could see the marks where she went up into a front yard.
Luckily no one was hurt.
Graves said the same thing happened in front of their house last year.
“I can think of, off the top of my head, of 5 different times parked cars have been hit and pushed up onto the sidewalk,” she told us.
City Councilman Berlin Boyd lives along this road, and saw the accident Saturday.
He said a lack of signs was part of the problem, but believed a simple move could also help.
“More neighbors should take in consideration possibly parking in their garages or behind their homes if possible,” he said.
Graves said she’s noticed more police lately, but would like to see more speed limit signs and possibly something more.
“I know that would be really annoying to cross over speed bumps every day but it would slow people down,” she reasoned.
Councilman Boyd said he’s meeting with city engineers to work out a solution this week.
