Student arrested in one of three violent incidents at Bolton High

SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — An 18-year-old Bolton High student was arrested and charged with attacking a sheriff’s deputy Friday, one of at least three fights that occurred on the Shelby County campus.

WREG obtained video of two separate fights as well as a student attacking a Shelby County Sheriff’s deputy at the school Friday. Lorenzo Brim was arrested on charges of assault and disorderly conduct after he allegedly attacked the Shelby County Sheriff’s deputy, who was attempting to detain Brim for gambling. The deputy received minor injuries and was treated on-scene, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. Video sent to WREG appears to show a student take the officer to the floor in a hallway. Two students nearby intervene and try to pull the student off the officer. WREG learned the deputy had to chase Brim down with his squad car and that it took chemical agents and a baton to arrest him. “There was an isolated incident this morning between a student and a Shelby County Sheriff’s officer at Bolton High School,” Shelby County Schools officials said in an email. “There were no SCS student or staff injuries as a result. The student involved in the incident was arrested and SCS will take disciplinary action according to SCS policies and procedures.” But there was at least one other “isolated” incident at Bolton on Friday. SCS confirmed there was also a fight between two girls outside the school, and video appears to show another incident. One video shows two girls punching each other in the parking lot as a teacher tries to pull them apart. Shelby County Schools confirmed this incident took place this afternoon and the students involved will face disciplinary action. Another video shows two different girls falling to the ground as they attack each other inside the school, leaving what appears to be a wig on the hallway floor. “As a parent, I’m very concerned. It’s alarming,” said parent Rondalyn Martin. “What can a parent think, you know, and we see it too much. It’s happening too much now,” said parent Ramon Ryan. “They’re not concerned about authority, so if they’re not concerned about authority, then them fighting another child is just gonna be, you know, something that they’re gonna do every day.” SCS released a statement about two of the incidents:

“Both of these incidents were completely isolated incidents and does not reflect the characteristics of the entire student body at Bolton High School and all of the great things they have happening on their campus.”

But some parents are beginning to wonder if the great things at Bolton High School are worth the occasional bad day. “Wondering if I’m going to continue at Bolton. I just right now I’m just kind of in limbo. Don’t really know what I would like to do,” said Martin.
