ARLINGTON, Tenn. — Shelby County firefighters have put out a fire at an MLGW substation near Arlington.

The fire broke out around 12:30 a.m. Monday at the substation on Highway 70 near Saffron Springs Drive.

It took firefighters about an hour to put out the flames.

Several viewers called and emailed WREG, reporting explosions and a fireball in the area.

The fire knocked out power to around 19,000 MLGW customers, mostly in the Arlington and Lakeland areas.

By 4 a.m., power had been restored to everyone affected by the outage.

MLGW is expected to release more information about what happened later in the day Monday.
