MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Summer Avenue nightclub was shut down after being declared a public nuisance.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, the James Lounge Club in the 3100 block was closed Thursday after an undercover investigation suggested it dealt in drug trafficking, bootleg liquor sales, prostitution, assaults and gang activity.
The officers, who visited the club nine times in the past five months, said they witnessed illegal drug and alcohol sales during “most” of the visits.
They were able to buy marijuana, Xanax and untaxed liquor that was supposed to be moonshine.
” Not surprisingly, it is the general reputation in the area and neighborhood that the Club is a dangerous place where illicit activities and the congregation of gang members regularly occurs,” said Amy Weirich in the nuisance petition.
The news release also said that since January 2014 police have responded to more than 60 calls for shootings, aggravated assaults, drug trafficking, thefts, domestic assaults and other criminal activity.
Twenty-two arrests were made during that period on Club property.
Owners Lenard Little and James Elmer Little are scheduled to be in court at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
