Suspect arrested in 2014 rape case

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police believe they’ve caught the man responsible for a brutal attack on a South Memphis woman last year.

34-year-old Ricky Boyd is charged with aggravated rape and attempted first degree murder.

The attack happened back on May 4, 2014 on Willie Mitchell Blvd. near Olive Street.

Officers found the 34-year-old victim after neighbors called 911 to report a woman who was screaming for help.

Police say the victim was barely able to talk because her attacker had shoved a stick into her mouth, cutting her tongue and throat.

According to the arrest affidavit, the TBI was able to match samples from the rape kit to Boyd’s DNA.

Boyd is due in court on Friday.
