Man accused of luring, raping women in vacant Raleigh houses

Kenyon Johnson

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police say a man behind bars for two violent rapes in the Raleigh area could be connected to more incidents.

Kenyon Johnson, 24, was charged with two counts of aggravated rape after police say he lured women to vacant houses and sexually assaulted them at gunpoint.

The two vacant homes are next door to each other on Olive Bark Drive in a newer subdivision.

A report says the first incident happened in mid-August after he met a woman at a gas station on South Parkway. They exchanged numbers and he told her to come over the next day before his girlfriend came home.

An affidavit says he asked her to be quiet when she got inside because his baby was sleeping.

The woman told police he then put a gun to her side and raped her inside the vacant home.

Later in the month, police say he met a different woman on Beale Street and invited her over that week.

Records say he told this second victim to come to another vacant house on Olive Bark Drive, and the same scene played out when she walked inside.

“To hear that news is disturbing. It’s heartbreaking,” neighbor Kelvin Bell said. “I’m very shocked and surprised.”

Investigators reported finding Johnson’s fingerprint in one of the vacant homes.

During questioning, police say he admitted to having sex with both victims after telling them to come to the houses. However, it’s unclear if he said it wasn’t consensual.

Detectives are also investigating if Johnson’s connected to other rapes.

We went to his listed address on Wednesday in Arlington where his relatives were shocked to hear about his arrest.

“Not my baby. No, not Kenyon,” a relative said.

Johnson’s criminal record dates back to 2013.

He’s been charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, theft and more in the past.

Police aren’t saying how he may have targeted those houses but said all damages caused to enter them have been repaired.

On Thursday, Johnson appeared in court.

His bond was set at $100,000 for the aggravated rape charges and $200,000 for aggravated robbery.
