MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police say a 19-year-old man is charged with kidnapping and first-degree murder after a woman was killed in Cordova.
Jordan Harp was arrested and charged in the crime. Court documents say he stabbed his girlfriend, Alaysha Lockett, when she tried to flag down a police officer after he took her from her home in the middle of the night.
According to police, officers were responding to an assault call in the area near Kings Cross Lane around 2 a.m. Friday when they spotted someone driving recklessly and tried to pull the car over.
By the time officers caught up with the car, the driver had crashed into a parked car. Officers found a trail of blood leading to a nearby house, where they found a woman dead in a garage. Police said she had a large cut wound to her neck.
WREG’s Nina Harrelson spoke to the woman who lives in that home, who says the victim was 18 years old and ran into her open garage for help after being involved in that crash with the suspect.
“She was able to say, ‘Help me. Help me,'” Rita Finnie said. “It was very, very scary to have to be a part of all this… From what the police officers were saying, she was stabbed and her throat was cut.”
Finnie believes the victim died before police got there.
“You could tell she fought because she ran from that distance down to here with her throat cut and still was trying to get help,” she said. “It was just very traumatic to see.”
Investigators towed away a green Volkswagen Beetle from a home down the street from Finnie’s house, where neighbors believe the victim lived.
Police wouldn’t say what connection the car or home has to the case or whether the woman lived there, but they confirmed she lived nearby.
“This young girl has lost her life,” Finnie said. “We can get past all of the unpleasant things that we deal with in this, but she’ll never get that chance again. And so, my heart just breaks.”
Police say the woman and suspect knew each other… but their relationship is still unclear.
Investigators haven’t released the victim or suspect’s names or any possible charges.
Neighbors believe that the victim lived a few houses down the block, and police confirm she lived in the area.
Police have not identified the victim, but say the suspect and victim knew each other.
Officers told us that when the details about this case come out, it will be “especially tragic.”
